Chelsea join race to sign Leeds United star Illan Meslier
Chelsea have joined the race to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Ilan Meslier this summer, Sources told Football Insider.
Graham Potter has informed the Blues board that he wants a new goalkeeper in the summer, while Leeds’ 23-year-old has been highlighted as a potential target.
The Blues believe Meslier could be one of the cheaper options on their shopping list should Leeds be relegated to the Championship.
However, football insider Sources revealed on Sunday (March 12) that Leeds United have asked for more than £30m for Meslier this summer.
The French goalkeeper has become a key player at Elland Road, having played every possible Premier League time for the Whites this season.
Tottenham and Manchester United previously linked with transfer Meslierbut Chelsea are prepared to outbid their rivals to secure his signature.
At Stamford Bridge this season, Porter has preferred Kepa to Edouard Mendy, who could be sold by Chelsea to raise funds.
Meslier originally joined Leeds United on loan from French club Lorient in 2019, with the club triggering their option to purchase him on a permanent basis following an impressive debut season.
After battling Kiko Casilla for the top spot, Meslier has secured his spot as a regular starter and has made 118 appearances for Leeds in total.
During that time, he kept 30 clean sheets for the Premier League side.
