Erik ten Hag speaks out about Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United boss Eric ten Haag says he is very pleased with the progress captain Harry Maguire has made.

Ten Haag was asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of today’s FA Cup clash with Fulham if he encouraged Maguire to “speak up in the training ground and in the dressing room”.

“Indeed. I’m very pleased with the progress Harry has made at the moment,” he replied.

“He’s more dominant and commanding, he’s more active on the training pitch and I think yesterday at Real Betis he also showed leadership, especially in terms of initiative and commanding the game.”

There has been much speculation that Maguire will leave at the end of the season as he is not first choice, but the words of the Ten Witches will encourage him to have a future at United.

The boss was also asked about Anthony Martial’s seemingly slow recovery from injury. The reporter asked: “Has there ever been a point where a player has to be fit and start performing well on the pitch in order to have a long-term future at the club?”

The Ten Witches replied, “I don’t think it’s time yet. If it were, I would[n’t] believe him.

“Every time he comes on, he really contributes to the performance of the team, the level of the team improves the moment he comes on. We just work with him to get him fit and ready to go. Standby.”

He was then asked if he could work with a player like the Frenchman to help them “overcome the pain barrier” like Marcus Rashford.

“Everyone is different, so you have to be different to everyone.” Ten Witches responded.

“You have to be very careful with the process and I will do everything I can to prepare him.”

It has been hinted that Martial will not be in today’s squad and it appears the manager’s plan is to begin gradually bringing him back into the squad after the upcoming international break.

The first chance is therefore likely to be against Newcastle United in the top four on April 2.
