Doucourt’s tough season on Merseyside

Everton have endured a difficult season in the Premier League, but Doucoure’s energy and energy in Sean Dyche’s central midfield has caught their eye at times. The 30-year-old has scored four goals and provided several assists in 26 appearances for the Merseyside club in all competitions this season.

The Mali star deserves credit for averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. After completing 80.4 per cent of his pass attempts in England’s First Division, he was careful even when exchanging possession with his midfield teammates (data from who scored).

His current contract with Everton was due to expire in 2024, but the Merseyside club decided to act quickly to extend the contract by another year.

Everton set to extend Doucoure’s contract: good for both parties?

Doucoure is a hardworking midfielder who can make life difficult for opponents in midfield with some solid tackles. He can hit the ball with power from long distance and has the ability to create some nice plays for his teammates in the opposing half.

Mari’s talent is a strong dribbler with the ball at his feet, but needs to be more consistent with his midfield contributions. He is primarily an all-around midfielder but can also play as an attacking or defensive midfielder if required.

Doucoure remains one of the most important members of Everton boss Sean Dyche’s matchday squad. If the Toffees are to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, they’d better keep their best players.

Doucoure was first in Dyche’s squad list at Goodison Park and knows the club well by now. At 30, he probably still has a few good years left in his tank. It therefore makes sense for the player and the Merseyside club to extend their time together in search of greater success in the future.
