Houston Dynamo grab first win of the year 2-0 over Verde

HOUSTON (KXAN) — Austin FC lost 2-0 to the Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday.

Amine Bassi scored a penalty for Houston in the 71st minute after Austin FC defender Adam Lundkvist had a handball inside the box. Hector Herrera equalized in the 86th minute with a left-footed shot past Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver. Griffin Dorsey crossed in the center of the box for Herrera before he beat Stuffer on the left.

It was Houston’s first win of the season, giving them an early advantage in the Glory Cup standings.

Austin FC came close in the 12th minute but Maxi Urruti’s header went wide of the right post after a superb pass from Jon Gallagher. Houston goalie Steve Clark was injured in the first half but played and saved all five of Austin’s field goals.

Austin has 52 percent possession but is 15-13 and 7-5 in field goals. Houston had seven corners, Austin had four, and Houston was called for 14 fouls and two yellow cards. Austin FC received 3 yellow cards for 12 fouls. Leo Väisänen, Diego Fagundez and Lundkvist were all included in the referee’s disciplinary books.

FC Austin (2-2-0, 6 points) returns to action on March 25 at home against the Colorado Rapids.
