Manchester United connection shines bright as Portugal secure nervy victory – Man United News And Transfer News

Portugal topped Group H after beating Ghana in their World Cup opener. It was an intense game, especially in the second half, when both sides scored 5 goals each after a mediocre first 45 minutes.

Garner maintained his superiority against former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, who kept trying to get into the box but was deftly organized by the defenders.

United’s Bruno Fernandes struggled to make an impact in the first half as Ghana played deep.

In the second half, Ronaldo broke the deadlock with a penalty kick, and the two sides had offense and defense.

It means Ronaldo is now the first player to score in five World Cups.

Moments later, though, Ghana fought back and Andre Ayew surprised the Portuguese with an equalizer from close range.

However, Portugal scored twice in two minutes to put the game on the line, or so they thought.

Both goals in the 78th and 80th minutes were assisted by Fernandes, who stepped up the attack in the second half and scored some long balls, which made the attacking players work.

Joao Felix teed off calmly in the first innings, while substitute Rafael Leao made an immediate impact after sacking in the second.

But the African side never gave up hope and Osman Bukari scored Ghana’s second goal as substituted Ronaldo raised his hands in frustration from the sidelines.

With nine minutes to go in stoppage time, Garner had several chances to equalize.

Diogo Costa put the ball down, unaware that Inaki Williams was lurking, but his grazed shot was sent wide.

The chance, meanwhile, fell to Bukkari but ended up at the top of the net.

It was a good final day at the office for Fernandes, with United’s Diogo Dalot a substitute who did not play.
