Amane and Mahiru have been waiting for days for the rankings to be announced. In fact, Mahiru even assured her neighbor that she would do anything he asked her to do. When the duo finally checked the results, they were delighted to learn that Tian Yin had finished sixth. The next night, Amane also openly stated that he wanted to do something for Mahiru as she also did well in her exams.
In the end, it was Mahiru who kept his word and let Amane put his head in her lap. Then, as the two of them talked to each other, she carefully cleaned his ears. Mahiru also helped Tian Yin wash his ears and rubbed his head, pampering him a lot. But briefly, after she was done, Mahiru fell asleep on the couch. She couldn’t wake up despite his best efforts, and he decided to take the key out of her pocket and take her to her apartment. When he finally put her on the bed, her eyes popped open.

After school, Kadowaki proposes to hang out with Amane to see the movie the latter has been planning to watch. Meanwhile, Chitose and Itsuki have already made other plans. Just when Amane was about to go with Kadowaki, Mahiru stopped him and asked for help. The teachers asked her to bind the printouts for the athletic meet. As the three of them sat together doing monotonous work, several girls made personal comments about Mahiru’s character. Naturally, none of them liked what they heard, but they kept quiet.
Later that night, Mahiru noticed Amane was upset and asked him if he was so bothered by the comments. He admitted he was irritated by the kind of things the girls said. Interestingly, Mahiru doesn’t care at all and sees things from a different perspective. Mahiru further explained that she strives to be a good girl who is liked by everyone. But she also mentioned how she’s recently grown tired of this lifestyle and started making big changes. Mahiru now feels that as long as someone can see her true face, it is not necessary for everyone to like her. In fact, she no longer intends to put too much emphasis on being liked—something Amane also appreciates.
